The Theory of Everything Kari Luna Books
Luna's debut novel "The Theory of Everything" is a story adolescents and teens can easily jump into, digest and start exploring for its various topics worthy of classroom discussion: are today's modern-day love letters really just playlists on iPods and Spotify? Is science magical? And what about string theory? Is there any application of the idea for today other than theoretical explorations and sci-fi movies? Are goodbyes really hellos because time isn't what we think it is?
The story's cross-dimensional traveling Panda, Walt, is the novel's most endearing character. A glutton for food and whimsical behavior, he guides Sophie's path, which is on a crash course for a wake-up call regarding her mysterious scientist father, a character revealed in flashbacks and lyrics within '80s mixtapes.
"The Theory of Everything" has established Luna as a wizard of YA sci-fi and fantasy. I'm hoping her next novel either takes Sophie further into other spatial-dimensions (maybe into the shaman Panda high council lair itself), or at least continues with the idea that magic and science both mix well for young and old imaginations alike.

The Theory of Everything Kari Luna Books Reviews
This was a really cute story considering some of the sad nature that is within it.
Sophie Sophia has been seeing strange things that no one else sees since she was a small child. Her own father had similar "episodes" that she can relate to, but she hasn't seen him in four years. She and her mom just moved. She is about to start at a new school as a freshman in high school. This is not the first time they have had to do this.
Another portion of this book is that Sophie loves mix tapes of 80s British New Wave bands mainly. She also likes to make neat pockets for her clothes that look like trees and such. She attempts to make a new friend and possibly a boyfriend, but who would really want to deal with the strange things she endures?
I found this book to be really well done. The story was interesting and a little odd at times, but fascinating. It is certainly a "coming of age" story with a mix of science fiction.
This book was a lot of fun. What a wild mix a shaman panda, visions of an alternate universe, a plucky girl's journey to find her missing, eccentric genius father. And toward the end, a beautiful poetic image the Sophie Effect. I won't ruin it by explaining it, but I found the Sophie Effect's vision of loss and love and solace to be moving and deeply creative. All in all, an emotionally authentic story, with its own unique sense of whimsy. Really interesting. I haven't read anything quite like it.
I am totally in LOVE with this book and gave it FIVE STARS plus a mint on the pillow!
Mixtapes filled with 80's awesomeness, marching pandas and the theoretical physics of love make this story of abandonment, questionable mental illness and self-acceptance a truly fascinating journey.
very well written and interesting...I'd give it a 10 really....

This book was super cute! i totally recommend!
If Donnie Darko was lighthearted you would have The Theory of Everything.
Sophie Sophia is a 14 year old girl who marches to the beat of her own drums. She loves 80's music on her vintage Walkman and dressing with a theme. But who can blame her when her childhood consisted of a quirky quantum physics professor dad who disappeared often and had strange visions.
Now Sophie is starting to have visions herself mainly involving a huge, music loving, shamanic, Panda named Walt.
After a huge fight with her mother Sophie, along with her physics loving best friend Finn, she runs away to NYC to find her father and some answers. Are these visions hallucinations and are Sophie and her father insane or is it something more?
The Theory of Everything is a cute coming of age story of love, pandas and becoming comfortable in your own skin. It's a great book not just for young adults but for all ages.
