I have really enjoyed some of Ting's other novels but this one left me a little cold. I was liking the slow burn in the first part of the novel but I didn't feel like it paid off. My main issue is that I never really connected with Jake as a hero. He is basically an immature d-bag. Yes, maybe he had his small moments, but my general take on his character is that he was a cocky (perhaps somewhat insecure) manwhore with a juvenile sense of humor. His major conflict-- not wanting to settle down because he wants to get into as many sets of knickers as he can--was not particularly interesting. I just didn't see how he was someone worth waiting for. Sure, as a hockey player he was pretty good, but as a human he seemed extraordinarily average.

Frankie was okay as a heroine but a little too obsessed with her looks for my tastes; her former weight issue had the potential to be interesting but Ting didn't really do anything with it. Frankie's friend Chloe seemed far more interesting.

I also found the ending to be far too sudden, which is ironic given how long the novel is. After he's been a jerk for months, she and Jake kind of make up, then Frankie jets off to Italy for 3 years while they do time apart....and then they get back together... and voila, their problems are solved because you know, they make each other laugh. Doubtful.

How The Cookie Crumbles edition by Melanie Ting Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

I hardly ever write reviews for books that I purchase on my but I felt compelled to encourage every woman to download the sample (it's TEN CHAPTERS!), fall in love with Frankie and Jake, and then read this entire book. Rarely is a steamy romance well-written with well-developed characters who you not only love despite their flaws but you can also relate to them. All of the characters-even the minor ones-are well-developed and Melanie Ting really brings her entire cast to life. These characters are not caricatures of literary archetypes but living, breathing people. The story was SO well-written and Ms. Ting has truly mastered the art of subtlety that seems to escape most romance writers. Jake and Frankie's evolving feelings and attitudes towards one another drives the story-not random circumstances and situations. The best word I can use to describe their relationship and this story is "organic." Their love story feels very organic and natural in the best way possible. It was truly a pleasure to read this book and I can not wait to read more from this author. She has made a fan for life! Keep it up!
This book could have been great based on its premise - but, I could never connect or warm up to the characters...Frances (Frankie) was obsessed about looks (especially about the type of guys she was interested in) and Jake....well, it almost seemed like the writer wanted him to be the least attractive guy...when a story is written about hockey players (or any other sports players) you sort of imagine at least a fit person - but this guy was not fit, seemed to have unattractive facial hair [as described], and always thinking about sex...and 3/4 of the book Frankie feels no attraction to him at all. How can we? Really? I'm not saying we need to feel the attraction in the first pages, but come on...it just seemed like two least people that belonged together.
Loved Frankie, loved Jake even though I wanted to whack him in the back of his head at times.A love story with ups and downs, realistic. PLEASE- PLEASE- PLEASE Ms.Ting write a sequel novella about this couple. I did not want the story to end.
What a great book! The storyline is a bit different from other romance novels, but in a good way. Strong characters and great dialogue. Highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed the book. It is a long one! I ended up taking a break about half way through, but when I started reading again really enjoyed the characters and storyline. I only wish the author would have given the reader a happy ever after. We assume they did have their happy ending...unless there is a sequel in the works. How the Cookie Crumbles is definitely a must read.
How the Cookie Crumbles is a delicious story that you can really sink your teeth into. All bad food puns aside, this story is full of interesting, original characters who are so real to me that I want Frankie to be my best friend. Sure, she’s a little anal and needs to relax, but so what? She’s perfectly happy. That is, until her douchey boyfriend Matt dumps her. When Frankie spends the summer in Kingston, Ontario with her friend, she meets Jake, a real guy’s guy who will do anything to get into Frankie’s pants, er, 50s-style poufy skirt. He can’t use his status as an NHL player for the LA Kings to lay her, and the two of them start a dizzying tango of friendship, romance, and love that takes them both for a spin!

As I said, I love Frankie, and I even love Jake, despite all his flaws. I cried with them, laughed with them, and laughed at them at some points of the story. And I grew with them too, as they struggled through their growing pains and worked through their emotions and issues.

I can’t wait to reread the story again and again.
Jake is a hockey player for the LA Kings.. While he is not the drop dead gorgeous amazing body player he is a cutie but he is young and not ready for a relationship.. He just wants to play the field with any and all woman he can

Frankie is a college student working 2 job to put herself through school. For the summer she visits her friend in Kingston, Ontario to get away from all the drama back in Vancouver.. She meets Jake and has no clue he is a hockey player.

Jake wants her.. Frankie is hot and sassy.. Frankie doesn't really like Jake but starts to see a new side of him over the summer..

Can Jake finally realize a relationship is not a bad thing? Will Frankie wait for him or is he just never going to grow up
